A Man such as I

Embers, by the dying light of the moon

I see the soft mist of heavy silver stars

Dark wood by the tenderness of love

The cloak of shadows there

Is deeper than eternity

As it covers what is greater than each and every gasp of breath

And what is greater than each and every pulse of the human heart

This, which is greater than the thoughts of our small and simple lives

Is what abides in me as I say goodbye

Such a love runs down deeper into the blood, the heart, and the soul of a man such as I

Than anything of which our persons are composed

Until it finally transcends all of these

And transcends thinking, thought, and the brilliance of the mind

Such a love is to be more than oneself

It is to be more than a man such as I

It is to be more than human

It is to be part of the fabric of everything

And so there is the immensity of joy

And there is the immensity of suffering

As the two converge into a simple image

The balancing of a power too great

For our thin understanding of the world

As it is only of the edges beneath the eternal

But when one stands in the dignity of such a love

Then one transcends one’s self

And yes, even transcends the world

The world then moves as the waves by the power of the moon which is eternity

As I kiss your soft hand goodbye

I also feel the kind grace of these waves

Which are in that moment the waves of all the world

And as I remove my kiss

I say goodbye to all the world

And I let it all disappear

Back into the fabric of everything

As we say our final words

And my heart is drenched with suffering

Yet my mind is filled with joy

Because I am no longer a man such as I

But I am part of the very fabric of things

And in this fabric of the world, of grace, and of infinity

I am infinite

In the place where we can all stand together

If you make the decision to love

Then we are statues on the moon

Holding all the earth together

With the bliss, the smile, and the joy,

Of friendship
