Why was it that the first ever light came forth from nothing? Why do things exist rather than not? For the planets they dance around the sun, and the electrons they dance around the nucleus. Moving inward and outward with every ray of light. Together with the universe they form a unity through the light. And yet the electrons move discreetly, and utterly they are unlike the larger world around them. The world gives forth and retracts power and pressure on so many given places that it calls forth our minds understanding of a law. Our places within the sweeping heights of the universe are our own measure of time, whereas light has its time indefinitely throughout the ages. As we look up at the heavens during the passion of the night we look upon the light of stars dead and yet we see them as though they were fresh, young, and alive. Why does existence function as it does? And what is the spirit of that existence even when some say it is only matter? Why is the power and pressure of forces balanced upon the world? And why does the mind justify its understanding of the world with conceptions immaterial? What is the heart of evil in the soul of a mortal? And why do we know it to be evil when we have beheld its destruction upon the earth? What is the meaning of our violence and our cruelty? Why do we fight, and kill, and die upon the bloody flesh of the earth? For I have apprehended the four seasons, and I have lived in the valley of joy along side the ocean of strife. And yet I have not found the answers to these questions in all the works of the sages! And as my mind focuses on its conclusions I find them to be inadequate. Will I ever know the truth upon the earth? Or is it only when I stand upon the dust of heaven that I shall have wisdom? For now I will have to walk upon the paths of the world by the enigma of my feet, and by the mystery of my spirit through the bay of indescribable wonder; and I shall find the land of forgotten purity which is in the secret depths of the human heart. These secrets of the heart are deeper than all the oceans of the world. For it is the purity of the heart that shall make our humanity beautiful within the deep fabric of the world’s complexity.
