With delicacy and refinement I say goodbye to you.
With the joy and the soft light of a foggy snow in the morning.
Where the lilies have grown around the blue spinning of the waters.
And the frogs have lived by the web of their sweet motions.
And the grass has kissed the yellow flowers by the hour of the moonlight.
And every voice of spring has loved your composition.
I can say goodbye to you with joy.
For I love you not for my pleasure.
But I love you without clinging.
And without the chains of hedonism do I admire you.
Your smokey eyes have given forth their vision into my heart.
And I have seen in you such great strength.
For I rejoice because my desire is for you to be happy.
And not for myself to possess you.
You have loved me in the same way.
For your heart is a mountain of gray and silver light.
Its only purpose is kindness.
And its image moves ever greater into the voice of transcendence.
A stairway shall paint itself into the motions of your actions.
And the paths of your actions shall be a highway to the stars.
You have left me a picture that shall never grow old.
For you have painted yourself in me with the most perfect of every color.
And you have grown in me a mighty circle
in the fabric of my stars,
so as to bless my fate according to the paths of love,
and by the brilliance of the cosmic sun.
Now that you have given me so much.
I beseech you to please let me give something to you from me.
And from the essential elements in the oceans of my heart,
what I give to you is these words.
“The fabric of existence is dancing in the wilderness of your mind.
For you have opened your heart to truth,
and you have given me the gift of love.
If the earth did ever echo the words of a lowly man such as I,
I hope it will echo these words as true.
If the sun did ever show the thoughts of a man to be good,
I hope it shows these thoughts of mine to be so pure and faithful,
so that the dust of the ground will hum with these words in their humility,
while the stars do love them in their glory.
“You are great because you have broken the harvest of the addictions of the world.
And because you have renounced the pride of the powerful upon the earth.
For you have loved the beggar in his brokenness,
and you have kissed the hands of the prisoner in his frailty.
Only the humble of heart will find the kingdom of love as you have found it.
In this kingdom does your echo reach my ears.
And this echo shall be my peace while you are away.”
