In Words and Visions

Flee with me

As if the world was nothing

And feel with me

As if time had never been.

My hand holds up a star

That is nothing still

Compared with that tear

That is my world of silver.

In the day of my leaving

Your thoughts neither are like the flowers

Except for their color

Of shaded passions forever.

Maybe we could dance

Just so slowly along with voices

That feel like worlds of motion

As if change was never real.

Or possibly we could speak

Like rapid tears in the water

To call out the lonesome cry

In tapestries of endless color.

Even if the world was nothing

And all the time

That had ever been

Or could ever be.

Even if that time

Was all there between us

Still like flowers in the rain

I could hear your voice beside me.

Even if the earth was larger

Than all the size upon the sun

You would still see me beside you

As if we had never been apart.

And in asking why I think

So dearly of this love of mine

Then perhaps some would never know

Just what I saw upon that day.

Upon that day in which I left

I walked away so slow and heavy

I looked behind me

And I saw the sight my eyes had never seen.

There stood my love

In lights of heavy earth

As if everything had gone away

In a single flash of silence.

In seeing me leave

It was as if the world was never

But there in visions upon the water

Of time never ending in the stars.

In just one second

I could tell how much it is

That I am truly loved

With mercy through the mind.

A voice upon the stars

That rattles all the earth

Could never tell me clear enough

Of the value that I found.

The value that I see

Is in a love so fair and true

That my words can never be the same

As if the world was ever new.

And back to my love

I say the world is black with beauty

From all my awe

Of your tender love like this.

I cherish you

Like thousands of shadows which shape my mind

In never ending patterns

Growing ever deeper in the darkness.

In words and visions

And in thoughts more sublime

For all the earth

Is now like rain.

A rain like love

That grows deep within me

And sparks like the ocean

In little thoughts upon the sand.

I want my love to know forever

In little eyes upon the sun

That my love is here beside me now

And in more than now upon the earth.

Your star that fell upon that day

Is mine forever to remember

With thoughts that stand even deeper

Than all the starry eyes upon the earth.
